BACARES JARA, Camilo. Cinema in school. A historical approach to knowledge, institutions and phenomena opposed to the use of film in school. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2023, vol.45, n.182, pp.156-173. Epub 17-Sep-2024. ISSN 0185-2698. https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2023.182.60906.
Cinema has been an intermittent and secondary character in school. From its invention it has been used to illustrate, document and think about school curricula through images. Even so, it has been equally rejected for educational processes. Through a historical approach, this text presents seven phenomena and discourses to explain this tension. That is to say, to explain the reasons, knowledge and representations which have caused film to lack a primary role in the education of children and young people. Among these we can find the stigma surrounding images, iconoclasm, the visual school tradition, some medical standpoints, psychology, law and theology. The way teachers undervalue film as an art and their collective imagination rejects film because of the way it has depicted them.
