Resumen
SERRANO ORTEGA, José Antonio. On the Territorial Revolution of Peoples. The Diputación Provincial and Local Government in Guanajuato, 1822-1824. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.147, pp.155-195. ISSN 2448-7554.
This article focuses on the history of the diputación provincial in Guanajuato. During the 25 months that it functioned as an institution, the principle objective of the representatives (diputados) on that provincial board (junta) was to achieve a transformation that would make it the dominant instance in political and administrative government in Guanajuato. What institutional performance allowed it to occupy the territorial hierarchy in Guanajuato? With whom was it allied? What social and economic processes facilitated or impeded the board's work? To answer these questions, the essay examines -and adds many lines of research that question- the pertinence of using the historiographic concept of the "territorial revolution of peoples" proposed by Antonio Annino as a way to understand the political transition from New Spain to 19th-century Mexico.
