GERMAN-SOTO, Vicente; RODRIGUEZ PEREZ, Reyna E. y GALLEGOS MORALES, Alexandra G.. Exposure to globalization and regional convergence in Mexico. Estud. Econ. (México, D.F.) [online]. 2020, vol.35, n.2, pp.267-295. Epub 21-Oct-2020. ISSN 0186-7202. https://doi.org/10.24201/ee.v35i2.404.
From the β-convergence theoretical framework, this article investigates the regional convergence process among Mexican states that are most and least exposed to globalization. Methodology applies weighted least squares and nested tests to make interregional comparisons. After to control by characteristics in the steady state, results find rates of regional convergence between 1.2% and 4.6% along 1940-2015. In the open stage, the speed of convergence rose among states that are most exposed to globalization but slowed among that least exposed. In addition, advances on education and health have been determinants for regional growth.
