Resumen

NAVARRETE-SUAREZ, Johana. Latin American migration in Mexico: Changes and continuities in labor incorporation. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2024, vol.39, n.2, e2195.  Epub 06-Sep-2024. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v39i2.2195.

The labor incorporation of immigrant populations from Latin America and the Caribbean in Mexico has not been studied, especially in its process dimension, its relationship with labor trajectories in the places of origin and characteristics such as ethnic-racial identity. Through the analysis of 34 in-depth interviews with migrants residing in Mexico and born in Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and Venezuela, I reconstructed trajectories-types of labor incorporation and proposes an analysis of the strategies the people use in Mexico to facilitate their integration into the labor market. Additionally, I explore the relationship between these processes with immigration regulation and the structure of the Mexican labor market.

Palabras llave : Mexico; Latin American migration; ethnic identity; Afro-descendants; labor incorporation; social integration.
