QUIJADA LOVATON, Karin Yovana. Mentoring in Academia: Professors’ Experiences and Vicissitudes in Two Mexican Universities. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.96, pp.239-273. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article analyzes the mentoring experiences in scientifically training academics at the University of Colima and the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. The author gathered the information using semi-structured interviews with 20 professors selected by an intentional sample. She organized and analyzed the most important stories using Bronfenbrenner’s “ecological perspective,” adapted in two dimensions: 1) an ontogenic system (educational background and cultural references); and 2) the micro-political (tutoring and relations established in the workplace). The most important results show that these accompanying strategies are determined by thematic affinities and fraternal ties, which give impetus to the exchange and dissemination of new knowledge.
