GONZALEZ GARCIA SANCHO, Areli et al. Ecological regionalization of northern coastal plain of Nayarit, Mexico. Invest. Geog [online]. 2009, n.69, pp.21-32. ISSN 2448-7279.
The state of Nayarit is located at NW from the Mexican Republic, in its territory converge four important Phisiographic Provinces; Sierra Madre Oriental, Cinturón Volcánico Trans-Mexicano, Sierra Madre del Sur and the Llanura Costera del Pacífico. Every one of them, has a specific geological substratum as a response to different genesis, these characteristics favour the existence of outstanding differences in elevation in short distances and therefore a potential for geomorphological and climatic diversities, these aspects are responsables for the existence of different landscapes. The Llanura Costera del Pacífico (Pacific Coastal Plain) ocupies a small área located at NW of the state and represent 445 069 ha, in this surface was made an ecological regionalization which has as started point the characterization of geomormological units; of land cover and use of soil. With this purpose it was developed a system of hierarchic classification which delineate environments, landscapes y geomorphological sub-landscapes, associated with edaphological data. On the other hand, was realized the cover of land and use of soil through the use of digital orthophotos, satelite images, thematic cartography (1:50 000), points verified on the field and site description with soil auger. The results were integrated and analized using an Arc View 3.2 geographic information system, in this way it was possible to identify 58 ecological regions, gathered in 11 sub-landscapes, 4 geomorphological landscapes and two geomorphological regions.
