SANCHEZ CERON, Manuel y DEL SAGRARIO CORTE CRUZ, Francisca María. The Evaluation of Teaching: Some Consequences for Latin America. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.67, pp.1233-1253. ISSN 1405-6666.
Educational rhetoric in Latin America points to the importance of evaluation for learning; its referent, however, is the results of national standardized exams, a phenomenon that has been established in the region for more than two decades. Research, on the other hand, has not made further study of the policy's consequences for teachers. In this sense, the current article presents a general panorama of the scope of evaluation for teachers in some Latin American countries. The study is based on an indicative review of the research studies that document such effects. The article considers three central aspects: one, the consequences for salaries; two, the effects on teachers' health; and three, teachers' opposition and resistance to this policy.
