LABRANA, Julio; BRUNNER, José Joaquín; PUYOL, Francisca y LOPEZ, Nicolás. Management of the Third Mission in a Highly Privatized Higher Education System. Translation Procedures in the Organization and Institutional Culture of Chilean Universities. RMIE [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.99, pp.1133-1159. Epub 26-Ene-2024. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article examines changes in the management of third mission in Chilean universities by analyzing the narrative of their directors. A multiple case study is developed using the deductive content analysis technique. The results suggest that management of “linkage with the environment” has changed, adopting principles of the new public management theory through centralized decisions, the emergence of new administrative units, and the creation of instances of systematization, monitoring and assessment of academic activities. However, the “linkage with the environment” appraisal has not changed. The logic of generating resources in association with the productive private sector is maintained -as is usual in the new public management model applied in advanced industrialized countries- and creating networks based on extension and social commitment.
