GALLEGO-MONTES, Gabriel. Socio-demographic explanation of the duration of male gay couple relationships in México City. Pap. poblac [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.67, pp.91-109. ISSN 2448-7147.
We sought to identify the socio-demographic factors that would explain the duration of male gay relationships. 633 male homosexual couple stories, which occurred at different time in their lives, were reconstructed from a retrospective bibliographic survey applied to 250 homosexual males, between 16 and 55 years of age, along 2006 in México City. A logistic regression analysis took as explanatory variables: paring cohort, place where the couple met for the first time, co-residence as a couple or not, age range of the couple, sexual exclusivity, time elapsed from the first meeting to first sexual intercourse, acknowledgement of the relationship by the family of the interviewee, and experience accumulation from stable couple relationships with other men. The statistically significant variables showed ambiguity in the discourse that support these relationships and which combine certain mandates of Mexican society in relation to sex, intimacy and alliances with openness discourses and non-sexual exclusivity.
