There is an empirical regularity which what as the woman advances in her academic achievements, the gender gap in labor participation decreases, but not disappears, that raises the question about the persistence of gender roles even in women with professional studies. The document proposes the hypothesis that the gender roles apply at all academic levels, although with less weight in women with professional careers. To test the hypothesis, ENOE data are used and a multilevel Logit model with mixed effects is estimated, which controls the effects of the heterogeneity caused by differences from specialties and regions. The exercise maintains fixed the sociodemographic characteristics of women in each educational level, while only varies couple status, results indicate that probabilities of labor participation are always higher in single women than married, which supports the hypothesis about the persistence of gender roles.
