The firewood use of eight colonies around the Huitepec volcano, Chiapas was analyzed. Settlements adjacent to two protected areas of private (Huitepec-Pronatura Reserve) and collective management (Zapatista Reserve), and a growing urban population (San Cristobal), increasing concern to conserve the forest, natural resources and fundamentals environmental services to the basin of San Cristobal. According to the use and management of the wood, was considered the colonies into four categories: priority, basic care, significant attention and medium care. In order to pay attention to forest users, the way they appropriate firewood, in order to find ways to work together for a sustainable management and conservation of Huitepec volcano.
