ARREDONDO TRAPERO, Florina Guadalupe; VAZQUEZ PARRA, José Carlos y VELAZQUEZ SANCHEZ, Luz María. STEM and Gender Gap in Latin America. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.18, pp.137-158. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9182019947.
The article aims to analyze the trend in the formation of STEM disciplines in Latin American women and, for this, considers the effect of their educational inclusion on the development of the region and the reduction of the gender gap. It proposes a reflection based on international reports on economic and human development to show that the reality of women, in terms of the development of these types of competences, remains unequal compared to men. Although this article fails to address related cultural factors, it sheds light on the need to address the lack of educational inclusion in these areas. As a conclusion, it identifies the acquisition of STEM competences as decisive for shrinking the gender gap in the Latin American region given the requirements of industry 4.0
