VILLORDO GALVAN, J. Agustín; JUAREZ REINA, Alejandro y CHAPA VARGAS, Leonardo. First record of the Bearded Wood-Partridge (Dendrortyx barbatus) in the Sierra Norte of Tlaxcala, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.2, pp.132-135. ISSN 1870-7459.
We report the first record of the Bearded Wood-Partridge (Dendrortyx barbatus) in the Sierra Norte of Tlaxcala, México. We surveyed 142 randomly stratified 1 km transects on crop lands, juniper forest, oak-pine forest, pine forest, and fir forest. We found a pair of Bearded Wood partridges and we were able to secure a picture of one of them. We obtained additional sightings and calls based on the information gathered with non-structured interviews to local people. The presence of the species in Tlaxcala suggests the existence of habitat continuity among Puebla, Hidalgo, and Veracruz; thus, we discuss the importance of this record in the species range expansion.
