Resumen

OYARCE SALAMANCA, Jorge Javier. Citizenship Education in Initial Teacher Training: A Systematic Review (2013-2023). Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2024, vol.54, n.3, pp.39-68.  Epub 22-Nov-2024. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2024.54.3.653.

Citizenship education constitutes a relevant and current thematic field, which, from initial teacher training, can contribute to society’s democratization and the participation of children and young people within the educational system and in their family and local environment. In this context, the article presents the state of the art on scientific research on citizenship education in initial teacher training through a case study as a research design. The method corresponds to a systematic literature review published between 2013 and 2023 in Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, JSTOR, ERIC, Scielo, and Dialnet. The literature review is developed under the PRISMA Statement, which allows the selection of 19 articles subjected to a qualitative content analysis using ATLAS. Ti 23. The results show that scientific research on citizenship education in initial teacher education is limited to Eurocentric matrix approaches to citizenship and instrumental case studies. The discussion and conclusion focus on the theoretical, empirical, methodological, and ethical contributions of this research to promote democratic, critical, and inclusive citizenship education in initial teacher training in contexts of social and cultural diversity.
