INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Guidelines for presenting manuscripts:

THERYA Online Manuscript Submission offers authors, editors, and reviewers the option of using our fully web-enabled online manuscript submission and review system. To keep the review time as short as possible (no postal delays!), manuscripts should be submitted to therya@cibnor.mx. NOTE: By using the online manuscript submission, it is NOT necessary to submit the manuscript also in printout or disk. In case you encounter any difficulties while submitting your manuscript on line, please get in touch with the responsible General Editor sticul@cibnor.mx. All the articles should be submitted to the General Editor in the usual way, but authors should clearly indicate if they are editorials, reviews, comments or research notes.

Language: THERYA accepts manuscript submissions and will print in English and Spanish. We appreciate any efforts made to ensure that the language is revised and corrected before submission as this will greatly improve the legibility of your paper if English or Spanish is not your first language.

Manuscript Presentation: In case of English, British or American English spelling and terminology may be used, but either one should be followed consistently throughout the article. Leave adequate margins on all pages to allow reviewers’ remarks. Please double-space all submitted material, including notes and references. . It is recommended that all articles submitted be sent in Times New Roman font size 12, double space. Make sure a new paragraph can be clearly identified with a margin of 1 cm. All lines throughout the manuscript should be consecutively numbered and margins set at 2.5 cm on four sides of the document. Research notes shall be short research articles of less than 1500 words and 20 bibliographical references. They should include an abstract and "resumen" (in this order), in both English and Spanish of less than 50 words each. Number the pages consecutively with the first page containing: running head (shortened title, less than 30 characters), title, author(s) (full name(s), affiliation(s), full address for correspondence, including telephone and fax number and email address. The journal uses decimal degrees, and periods within a paragraph should be followed by two spaces.

Abstract: Please provide a short abstract (English) and resumen (Spanish) of 100 to 250 words. Both abstract and "resumen" should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references.

Key words: Please provide 5 to 10 key words in alphabetical order, separated by a comma. It is preferred not to repeat the words used in the title.

Nomenclature: The correct taxonomical names of organisms in concordance with the international rules of nomenclature must be used in italics (not underlined). Descriptions of new taxa should not be submitted unless a specimen has been deposited in a recognized collection and designated as a type strain in the paper.

Figures: All photographs, graphs, and diagrams should be referred to as a 'Figure' and should be numbered consecutively (1, 2, etc.). Multi-part figures should be labeled with lower case letters (a, b, etc.). Please insert scale bars directly in the figures and avoid including the keys inside the figure; it is better to set them in the legend of the figure. Relatively small text and great variation in text sizes within figures should be avoided as figures are often reduced in size. Provide a detailed legend (without abbreviations) to each figure. All figures should be cited in the text consecutively (Fig. 1, etc.). Please place the legends in the manuscript after the references. Consider that for the final size of the figures these shall be adjusted to the printing box of the journal. It is very important to check the lines and font in the figures considering the final publication size. Charts or graphs could be two sizes (a) full box, obligatory size of 18 cm wide and up to 24 cm long, and (b) half box, obligatory size of 6.6 cm wide and 24 cm long. Once the article is accepted for publication each of the charts and graphics should be sent in a separate file and in common editorial formats such as CorelDraw, Excel, etc. that will allow the editor of the format to perform the printing of the journal. Consider this point while working on the original manuscript. Images should be at least 300 dpi in RGB color or 450 in grayscale. Figures can be edited in any vector fromat, such as CorelDraw or Illustrator adobe or exported as EPS color graphics.

THERYA offers options for reproducing color illustrations in your article.

Tables: Each table should be numbered consecutively (1, 2, etc.). Vertical lines within the table should be avoided and horizontal lines should only be used as necessary. In tables, footnotes are preferable to long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table. Such explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should be placed immediately below the table. Please provide a caption (without abbreviations) to each table, refer to the table in the text, and note its approximate location in the margin. Finally, please place the tables after the figure legends in the manuscript.

Section headings: Headings should be clearly distinguishable but not numbered: Introduction, Material and methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion (optional), Acknowledgment, and References.

Appendices: Supplementary material should be collected in an Appendix, placed before the Notes and Reference sections, and with Arabic numerals.

Acknowledgements: Acknowledgements of people (initial and surname; titles and academic degrees should be omitted), grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the References.

Cross-referencing: In the text, a reference identified by means of an author's name should be followed by the date of the reference in parentheses. When there are more than two authors cited, only the first author’s name should be mentioned followed by 'et al' in italics. In the event that an author cited has had two or more works published during the same year, the reference, both in the text and in the reference list, should be identified by a lower case letter like 'a' and 'b' after the date to distinguish the works. Examples: Winograd (1986), (Winograd 1986a, b), (Winograd 1986; Flores et al. 1988), (Bullen and Bennett 1990)

References: Please avoid using papers presented at a conference and/or technical reports. Names should be written in Versales with Capital and low case letters. Conjunctions (and) should go in the language the article is written and followed by a comma. In case of the U.S.A. the country is omitted. Gray literature should not be cited. If so, do not write initials but full institution name.

Surname (comma and space), initials of the following names each followed by a period, (comma) "y" or "and" depending on the language in which the manuscript is written), year of publication (period and two spaces), title of publication (period and two spaces), full name of the journal volume, colon and page number.
